What is organic wine?
This is made as near to nature as possible using
grapes which have grown in healthy soil without the need for artificial
fungicides, pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers.
Organic growers feed the soil with natural composts
and use cover crops between the rows to promote biodiversity. When
cover crops flower they bring colour and beneficial insects into
the vineyard.
Does organic wine taste
different?
Organic wines are made from grapes grown on vines
which are naturally resistant to pests & diseases. In order to protect
themselves, the vines have to be efficient, i.e. the yield of grapes
is reasonable taking into account local climate and soil.
They are mostly low-yielding varieties which are
packed with natural sugars. So the grape juice ferments into alcohol
without the need for truck-loads of beet sugar.
The result is wines which are more concentrated
in natural flavour and colour - lovely!
